An Amish Restaurant I like.

One of my favorite restaurants to dine at is located in Shipshewana, Indiana. It has always been the tradition that our family visit at least once a year. It’s a unique place displaying deep Amish roots which are reflected by a large Amish community that accentuates the town adding a dash of fascination, and a splash of romance and mystery. Whenever we spend the day there I usually catch myself at least once having the fantasy of marrying into a big Amish family, via a beautifully sweet Amish woman, and living happily ever after.

Now when we go, we only go for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only. The weekly Wednesday auction, and to dine at the locally famous “Blue Gate Restaurant and Bakery”. It’s an Amish restaurant specializing in actual Amish cuisine, with almost all items being made from scratch and freshly prepared daily. The food isn’t pompous, it doesn’t play games with the taste buds, no fancy or weird expensive spices to confuse them. No, when I bite into “Blue Gates” sweet brown sugar ham or a moist grilled pork chop or wipe my chin from the juices of their crispy fried chicken, it always consistently reveals that their home-cooked meals are authentic and delicious.

l love all the sides they offer as well, like green beans with thick salty bacon, tender homemade egg noodles, whipped mashed potatoes with sweet cream, and crusty bread stuffing to name a few. When it comes to desserts they offer a wide variety of pastries, pies, cobblers, cakes, and jams, as well as the usual ice cream delights. “Blue Gate” is my favorite place in Shipshewana to eat because the food is freshly prepared from scratch, giving you a flavorful taste of a genuine Amish kitchen.

Thanks.
